Food distribution, FMCG logistics, and public sector supply chains require high traceability, rapid order fulfilment, and strict control of perishable goods. In this context, Impuls Domžale has implemented the Easy WMS warehouse management system from Mecalux to digitalise operations, manage 2,000 SKUs, and coordinate multichannel order flows with reduced error rates.
For more than three decades, Impuls Domžale has supplied food products to Slovenian institutions such as nurseries, schools, hospitals, and retirement homes. Its operations also include an e-commerce channel focused on dietetic products, increasing the complexity of inventory handling and order preparation. To address growing demand and operational pressure, the company worked with Špica to deploy Easy WMS at its warehouse near Ljubljana.
Warehouse digitalisation to reduce errors and improve control
Prior to implementation, key processes such as goods receipt, inspection, and inventory control were managed manually, increasing the risk of human error. The introduction of Easy WMS enables full digital tracking of warehouse activities, including inbound operations, inventory movements, and outbound logistics.
The system integrates barcode scanning to verify product data such as expiry dates and ensures traceability across all stages. Order preparation follows FEFO (First Expired, First Out) criteria, which is critical in food logistics where shelf life directly impacts product quality and compliance.
This digital approach allows operators to manage stock more accurately while providing real-time visibility of warehouse activity. As a result, the company can better assess operational capacity and plan resources accordingly.
Coordinated multichannel order fulfilment
The warehouse stores approximately 2,000 SKUs across two floors, with dietetic products located on the upper level. Easy WMS organises picking processes by grouping items efficiently: operators first collect dietetic goods and then continue picking across general, chilled, frozen, and sensitive product zones on the ground floor.

Replenishment tasks are triggered automatically in parallel with picking, ensuring stock availability without interrupting workflows. This coordinated approach enables Impuls Domžale to consolidate daily orders and prepare shipments for distribution routes within tight timeframes.
Since deployment, orders placed before 10:00 a.m. are delivered the following morning, demonstrating improved operational speed and reliability.
Scalability in FMCG logistics operations
The implementation of Easy WMS supports the company’s ability to handle increased workloads without proportional growth in manual effort. By reducing operational errors and automating key processes, the system contributes to more consistent performance in a sector where demand variability and workforce fluctuations are common.
According to David Božič, Sales and Logistics Manager at Impuls Domžale, the system enables the company to process higher volumes while maintaining accuracy, highlighting the role of digitalisation in eliminating inefficiencies in FMCG logistics.
Positioning within warehouse management systems
Warehouse management systems such as Easy WMS are widely used in FMCG environments to improve traceability, automate inventory control, and optimise order picking. Comparable solutions include platforms like SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) and Manhattan Associates WMS, which also provide end-to-end warehouse visibility and process automation.
In this case, the deployment focuses on integrating barcode-based traceability, FEFO compliance, and multichannel order coordination within a mid-sized distribution operation. The ability to synchronise replenishment with picking and manage diverse storage conditions (ambient, chilled, frozen) is a key selection factor for food distribution companies.
By digitalising its warehouse, Impuls Domžale aligns its logistics infrastructure with the operational requirements of modern FMCG supply chains, where accuracy, speed, and traceability are essential.
