In the parcel logistics and automated sorting systems sectors, Fives will equip PostNord’s new Stigamo terminal in Jönköping County with a high-throughput sorting solution designed to support sustained parcel growth and increasing demands for fast and reliable delivery. Scheduled to open in 2027, the facility will become the most powerful parcel hub in Sweden.
High-Capacity Automation for National Distribution
The Stigamo terminal is designed as a centralized logistics hub with extensive process automation. Fives will install a fully integrated system combining:
- Two GENI Belt sorters totaling 1.4 km
- Four GENI Hive singulators
- Ten induction lines
- Nearly 1,000 sorting destinations
The system is engineered for a peak capacity of 25,000 parcels per hour, positioning the site as a key node in Sweden’s national parcel distribution network.
The combination of high-speed sorting and automated singulation enables continuous handling of large parcel volumes while maintaining operational stability and flexibility.
Long-Term Technical Collaboration
PostNord selected Fives based on its experience in large-scale, high-throughput sorting systems and a collaboration history dating back to 1989. Over this period, Fives has delivered more than ten sorting systems to PostNord.
This established technical partnership supported the design phase of the Stigamo project and contributed to the supplier selection for what represents PostNord’s largest parcel infrastructure investment to date.
Supporting Sustainable Logistics
The sorting solution will be installed in an eco-designed building incorporating provisions for solar energy generation and EV charging infrastructure. The project aligns with PostNord’s objective to operate a fully fossil-free fleet by 2030.
By combining high-capacity automation with energy-conscious infrastructure planning, the facility is designed to increase throughput while supporting long-term sustainability targets.
Strategic Infrastructure Expansion
The Stigamo terminal represents the largest parcel infrastructure development in PostNord’s history. As e-commerce volumes continue to grow in Sweden, the facility is intended to strengthen the resilience, speed and scalability of the national logistics network.
With its 25,000 items/hour capacity and nearly 1,000 destination outputs, the new hub establishes a new benchmark for automated parcel handling performance in Sweden.
