Aflofarm Farmacja Polska recently doubled its logistics capacity by selecting Kardex Mlog for a complex high-bay warehouse extension in Pabianice. While several providers entered the tender process, Kardex secured the contract by offering a unique combination of competitive pricing, deep technical competence, and a localized project management approach that eliminated the communication barriers often found in international industrial installations.
Maximizing Operational Efficiency Through High-Density Storage
The expansion addressed the need for increased storage without expanding the facility's physical footprint. By integrating three new 36-meter-high aisles, the project added 20,016 pallet spaces, effectively doubling the site’s previous capacity. This growth allows Aflofarm to consolidate its logistics by dedicating the new section to finished products while repurposing the original warehouse for raw materials. This strategic shift eliminates the need for external third-party warehousing and frees up internal factory space for future picking operations.
Advanced Automation and Technical Integration
The core of the installation features three Kardex MSingleB-1300/36-ZT stacker cranes, designed for double-deep storage and retrieval of loads up to 1,300 kg. These units are managed by Siemens S7 control systems and a sophisticated conveying loop consisting of 79 drives. To ensure a seamless transition, Kardex Mlog developed a custom interface for the material flow system (MFS) to communicate with the existing controller. This technical precision allowed the entire project—which ran from August 2024 to December 2025—to be commissioned without any disruption to Aflofarm’s ongoing pharmaceutical production.
The Advantage of Localized Engineering and Communication
A primary differentiator in this project was the decision to utilize a team of Polish engineers and project managers. By designating Polish as the official project language, both parties ensured clear, efficient communication and continuous oversight. This localized expertise, combined with Kardex’s extensive history in executing similar large-scale pharmaceutical projects, provided the reliability necessary for such a high-stakes investment. The result is a high-performance, sustainable logistics hub that provides Aflofarm with full control over its supply chain.
