Industrial automation provider KUKA and intralogistics specialist BOA Concept have partnered to deploy integrated material handling systems utilizing autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and modular conveyors. This cooperation targets manufacturing and logistics operators seeking to automate workflows between storage areas and production lines without relying exclusively on fixed physical infrastructure.

Addressing Intralogistics Challenges
Facilities managing high-volume supply chains face the challenge of aligning production equipment output with internal material flow capacity. Traditional fixed conveyor infrastructures limit operational flexibility when facility layouts or production volumes require modification. To address these structural constraints, KUKA provides hardware capabilities in industrial robotics and AMRs, while BOA Concept supplies modular handling equipment and flow management software. This cooperation enables the integration of mobile robotics into broader intralogistics networks, providing a mechanism to scale material transfer capacity independently of fixed architectural modifications.

Technical Architecture and System Integration
The joint technical solution merges KUKA’s autonomous mobile hardware with BOA Concept’s proprietary modular conveyor systems. System orchestration is managed by the BOA Central Suite execution software, which functions as a unified digital infrastructure interface. Rather than operating AMRs as standalone units, the execution software coordinates the mobile robots alongside the static modular conveyors to create continuous, automated material pathways. This architecture allows the AMRs to navigate shared environments while dynamically adjusting routing parameters based on real-time operational demands, sensor inputs, and facility layout updates.

Industrial Applications and Operational Deployment
Designed for manufacturing plants and distribution centers, the integrated system supports specific technical use cases, including automated material transfers between storage zones and order-picking stations, as well as the continuous supply of components to active production workstations. By utilizing AMRs to bridge physical gaps between modular conveyor segments, facilities can mitigate manual handling bottlenecks and improve process stability.

The primary operational mechanism driving efficiency is the reduction of rigid logistical infrastructure. Instead of halting production to mechanically reconfigure fixed conveyor lines, operators can adjust AMR routing and material flow logic via the unified software interface to accommodate new workstations or varied throughput requirements.

Strategic Alignment for Scalable Operations
The integration of mobile robotics with execution software prevents operators from becoming locked into inflexible logistics configurations. Patrice Henrion, Managing Director of BOA Concept Group, outlined the technical rationale for the software-driven approach: “The complementarity between our modular material-handling equipment and KUKA's AMRs, orchestrated by our BOA Central Suite execution software, enables us to refine the solutions we offer our customers while remaining true to our core principles: modular, scalable installations that can adapt to business needs over time.”
