Hanwha Vision improves barcode capture for logistics automation
A flexible vision solution with customisable installation and seamless systems integration

In logistics centres, distribution hubs and automated sorting facilities, barcode recognition is a critical function for throughput, traceability and error reduction. Hanwha Vision has introduced a new modular barcode reader (BCR) camera designed specifically to support these requirements, combining configurable hardware, optimised imaging performance and straightforward system integration.

The camera targets logistics applications where large volumes of parcels must be identified quickly and reliably, often under varying lighting conditions and constrained installation geometries.

Modular hardware for site-specific configuration
The BCR camera is built around a modular architecture that allows users to adapt the device to individual installation scenarios. Lenses can be selected in focal lengths from 6 mm to 25 mm, enabling optimisation for different working distances and fields of view. Interchangeable LED modules with wide or narrow beam angles allow illumination to be matched to conveyor layouts, parcel sizes and ambient light conditions.

This approach allows system integrators and operators to configure only the components required for a given site, reducing unnecessary hardware complexity and supporting cost-efficient deployment in both new installations and retrofit projects.

Monochrome imaging optimised for barcode reading
At the core of the system is a 3 MP monochrome image sensor, chosen specifically for barcode recognition tasks. By capturing black-and-white images rather than colour data, the camera improves contrast between barcode elements and background surfaces, increasing decoding speed and accuracy while reducing data processing load.

This design is particularly suited to high-throughput logistics environments, where rapid and consistent barcode detection is required to keep conveyors, sorters and tracking systems operating without interruption.

Integrated operation in logistics camera systems
The new BCR camera is designed to operate alongside Hanwha Vision’s existing logistics imaging solutions. In combined setups, a 4K dual-sensor barcode camera can be used for top-down package monitoring and barcode capture, while the 3 MP monochrome unit focuses on barcodes located on the front or sides of parcels. This multi-angle approach improves read rates in complex parcel flows where barcode orientation varies.

Integration with Hanwha Vision’s logistics software enables barcode data to be linked directly with corresponding video footage, supporting invoice verification, shipment tracking and incident review from a single interface. Compatibility with third-party video management systems (VMS) also allows the camera to be incorporated into existing surveillance and automation infrastructures.

Reliable recognition in challenging lighting conditions
For environments with uneven or low lighting, the camera incorporates AI-based barcode recognition that automatically identifies barcode positions on parcels. An integrated HDR (High Dynamic Range) function suppresses noise and balances exposure, supporting stable barcode detection even in difficult lighting scenarios.

With its combination of modular design, monochrome imaging and integrated software support, the new barcode reader camera from Hanwha Vision is positioned as a practical tool for logistics operators seeking to improve barcode read rates, system flexibility and overall process efficiency.
